These
paintings contain adult subjects of sexuality, violence and death.
I used the erect penis as a metaphor for the male human being's
inherent violence. The phallus is equated with guns and nuclear missiles,
and is used to represent some men's insanity and misogyny.
This was how I felt at the time of making these paintings, in the
mid to late eighties, when nuclear obliteration seemed imminent,
when a woman with insane eyes and an actor with Alzheimer's rooled ok,
when I was an angry young man.
My views may have mellowed somewhat since then.
