My name is Justin Bailey and I am an artist.

"THIS IS PLANET EARTH" is an art work. It comprises of dozens of rotating animated gifs of our planet earth. These spinning globes are seen on thousands of internet sites, personal and business, and they have almost become a cliché. I personally think they are rather beautiful and very compelling, and there are so many different variations out there. Some are big, some are tiny, there are crude, basic ones and others that are incredibly detailed. I've become like a jackdaw and gone around acquiring these little moving gems from various sites on the net. All the images came from free sites, but I must thank all the anonymous artists whose skill and hard work went into making these mini Gaias. Their differing visions of our planet when put all together make up a strange, surreal and abstract work of art. Feel free to appropriate any of these images youself, they are not mine any more than they are yours. These images belong to all the people of our wired planet. I have only put them in a certain configuration for my own satisfaction, because I wanted to see what they would look like that way. All these images are free for use to use and you can download them down onto your computer for you to use how you want - in your website or forum. I only ask you to please not link to an image.

Due
to requests, you can now see these globes
individually, so that you do not have to download the whole page of 267
animations (at the last count). Although this is the point of the
piece "THIS
IS PLANET EARTH" - to show them all together as a unity,
an artistic statement - I appreciate that it does take a long time to
download with a standard modem. So I have decided to display them as a
picture library too, and have started to
catalogue and organise the gifs. Initially, I have described and classified
about 50 images (so far) into 4
sections: small, medium,
large and novelty.
I will add the rest when time permits - but if you wish to see them all,
you will have to download them altogether. From starting as an artwork,
this collection has also become a resource. |
